Deadline April 15
Permanent residents, like US citizens, must comply with their tax obligations and pay taxes.
The question that many ask is whether a permanent resident can jeopardize their immigration status or directly lose it if they do not pay taxes.
And the answer is yes.
This is what the US Citizenship and Immigration Services says on its website:

TAX SEASON ENDS APRIL 15
“If you are a permanent resident and intend to maintain your permanent resident status, you must submit your tax return to the US Department of Internal Revenue (IRS) and any tax return corresponding to the area, city or municipality, when required.”
“Under immigration laws,” USCIS continues, “if a permanent resident who is required to submit his tax return as a resident does not do so, or submits a nonresident alien tax form, he could be considered to have left his state and could lose his permanent resident status.”
This means, quite simply, that a permanent resident who does not pay taxes can lose residency.
If you are a permanent resident and have not filed your taxes, you have until April 15 to do so.
If you need an extension, we will help you.
Remember that if you are a permanent resident, you must comply with your tax obligations and pay your taxes.
