Tax Season 2022: What to do if the IRS owes me money and when will I be able to receive it.

Due to the high workload and office closures, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has thousands of delays, so thousands of tax returns are still being processed and, therefore, Thousands of refunds have not been issued.

What if the IRS owes me money and when can I get it?

If the IRS owes you tax refund money, you can get paid before the end of the year.

The tax agency has announced that in December another batch of payments is issued, which means that those who made their return before the approval of the 'American Rescue Plan' and paid federal taxes for the first $ 10,200 received in unemployment benefits they will finally receive their refund.

For those taxpayers who have tax debts, the refund may not come as the IRS uses part or all of the money to pay off the debt. If this is your case, the IRS will send you a letter 30 days after making the adjustment to explain your situation.

Taxes 2022: Will There Be Delays Too?

The probabilities of delays in 2022 for 2021 returns are low, as IRS offices are already open and the United States is slowly moving towards post-pandemic recovery.

However, you need to consider that if critical new tax legislation is passed at the end of the year, it could trigger another delay in the start of the tax season in a week or two.

If there is no new legislation and you file your tax return in January, the IRS may give you your refund in mid to late February.
